Complainers assuaged… Updates given

February 5, 2008

So here it is. An end to the drought of posts. Hopefully both readers of this blog will enjoy it.

First, the past. I’ll quickly recount the past few months (as I recall them) while depositing notes that may or may not be true along the way. We didn’t meet for what seemed like two months at the end of 2007 due to Congregational Meetings, holidays, and some other reason (did we skip one for weather?). In October, the Atlantic City Rescue Mission was visited and assisted for a day. Meals were prepared. Mouths were fed. Fun times were had. In November, the ladies went shopping, while the guys played soccer. Dollars were spent. Perspiration was perspired. There was a Senior High Rally in Cherry Hill. Some people went. Some didn’t. Those who went had fun. Those who didn’t were jealous of the fun that was had by those who went. In December, we went Christmas Caroling in the snow. Songs were sung. Hands were cold. There was also a Saturday with cookie baking and soccer playing. Cookies were baked. Soccer was played (probably too seriously). A Christmas party was had. There was fire and presents. After Christmas, hockey was played. Goals were scored. Backs became sore. The guys were too competitive. In January, there was a winter retreat. Many miles were driven. Fast food and junk food was eaten. Volleyball and wiffle ball was played. Fat Head and friends were drawn. Pranks were pulled. Skiing finally happened.

Note, if you have pictures you’d like to share, email me.  (tallnproud at gmail dot com)

- Blogging beyond the grave. “This blog is made up of transcripts of Harry Lamin’s letters from the first World War. The letters will be posted exactly 90 years after they were written.”
- If you’re thinking about buying music of any kind, I beg of you to try the Amazon Download Store. It’s far cheaper than buying CD’s and there is no DRM (i.e., you can play the song on any MP3 player).

Happy New Year!

September 26, 2007

Summer is officially over; autumn has begun. School has started. Government fiscal years have begun. Promotion Sunday has happened in Sunday School. Clubs has begun. So many things have their beginning in September. I sometimes wonder why we don’t just start the New Year in September instead of January.

But back to the real point: CLUBS HAS BEGUN! The time has come for me to stop being lazy and start posting updates. It’s been a while since I’ve shared any random trivia or updates on Senior High happenings.

So here’s the first thing: the activities schedule. We’ve got a nice list of activities for the whole year, but for now I’m just listing the items for 2007. (Note: the dates of the shopping trip and the OPC rally have been flip-flopped. This is different from the schedules that were handed out on Sept. 19. Note 2: the date of the shopping trip has been changed again. It’s now scheduled for Nov.9.)

October 6th – Atlantic City Rescue Mission (meet at church 8:15, return 2:30)
November 9th – Ladies: shopping trip / Guys: to be determined
November 16th & 17th– OPC rally (meet Fri 5pm, return Sat 5:30 – 6 pm)
December 5th (Wed) – Christmas Caroling at Friends Home in Woodstown
December 8th (Sat) – Cookie baking
December 14th (Fri) – Christmas Party/Bonfire at Duggan’s
December 27th (Thurs) – Street Hockey (1pm at church)

Next there’s the Wednesday night schedule. Are we using the gym tonight? Is it a praise and prayer night? Is it (*eerie music plays*) a Catechism night?!? Are we meeting at all?!?!? The answers are all right here. Again, I’ll just post the 2007 portion to keep things brief:

Sept.
12 – Whole Group Prayer| Overview, rules, choices, etc
19 – Small Group Prayer | Catechism #1
26 – Mixed Small Group Prayer | Gym – Tennis Racket Baseball

Oct.
03 – Music/Prayer/Devotions
10 – Whole Group Prayer | Open Forum
17 – Mixed Small Group Prayer | Gym – Soccer
24 – No Clubs – Reformation Day on Saturday
31 – Music/Prayer/Devotions

Nov.
07 – TBA in Auditorium
14 – Mixed Small Group Prayer | Gym – Ultimate Frisbee
21 – No Clubs – Thanksgiving Week
28 – Small Group Prayer | Catechism #2

Dec.
05 – Caroling at Friends Home in Woodstown
12 – Church Christmas Program
19 – No Clubs – Christmas Break
26 – No Clubs – Christmas Break

Finally, a little bit of nothing.
- Whether or not you’re a fan of the sport, a paintball tank is definitely cool.
- Be careful feeding wild animals. You might end up hosting the whole herd for breakfast.
- Amazon.com has a new online music store, where you can buy songs for $0.99 that you can play on any digital music device (be it an actual iPod or no).

P.S. Do you like the blog? Would you like to see anything (layout, approach, stories) changed? Remember, this blog is for the Senior High. Your opinion does matter!

OC Trip This Saturday!

June 20, 2007

Hopefully you’ve all gotten the email with the details, but in the unlikely event that you check this blog more than you check your own email, here is what you need to know.

Departure: From the home of… umm.. Poindexter at 9:30 AM. There should be a number of families coming from the church area so hitch a ride if needs be. Don’t be late!

Return: To the home of Poindexter at 8:30 PM.

Planned Activities: Hang out on the beach most of the day. Head up to the boardwalk to eat dinner and walk the boards for a while in the late afternoon and evening. We’ll leave OC around 7:30 PM

What to Bring: Lunch/drinks/snacks (don’t forget extra ones for the leaders!) to eat on the beach. Money for dinner on the boardwalk (and maybe play a round of miniature golf???)

I need to get an exact head count so that I know how many drivers we need.  Please email Poindexter either way if you are or are not attending. Otherwise, you’ll get one of his annoying phone calls to find out if you got his email.

For those of you who said you’d drive, please let Poindexter know how many passengers your car can hold and how many spaces would be available for transporting those outside your family.

As of this morning, the weather for Saturday looks good – mostly sunny and a high near 80 and ocean temps nearing 70.

We hope to see you then. Please call or email if you have any questions.

PS – In order to make a good representation for our church, please use discretion in bathing suits worn.

Summer Plans

June 8, 2007

If you remember that first post, you’d see that I promised some information about upcoming events. If you haven’t seen the first post, scroll down the page for a walk down memory lane. Anyhow, the time has come for some announcements.

Summer is here, and there are a few activities coming up. Oh, before I actually say what they are, I should say that all the summer activities are open to the incoming freshman. It’ll be a good time for the newbies to get acquainted and for the upperclassmen to show off some leadership skills.

First up, we have a trip to Ocean City on Saturday, June 23. Bring your beach chair, swim suit, towel, bucket, shovel, boogie board, sunscreen, umbrella, paddle ball set, and personal submarine… oh wait, that’s just me. Ok fine, just bring whatever you need to have a good time at the beach. I’ve taken a look at the super long range weather forecast, and it looks good so far. At this point, you’d have better odds forecasting the weather by flipping a coin, but I’ll try to keep everyone updated on what the weather will be like. Meeting time will be around 9:00 in the morning; check back later for finalized details and weather.

Second, we have tickets for two Phillies games this summer: August 8 vs. the Florida Marlins and September 10 vs. the Colorado Rockies. Unfortunately, we only have eleven tickets for each game, so everyone is only going to be able to go to once. We’ll figure out who is going to which game as the dates get closer.

Third, there is an all-nighter tentatively scheduled for August 10 and 11. More details will follow.

Finally, as if it needed any more publicity, French Creek Bible Conferences will running continuously starting in July.  Of course, many of you have already planned out your July’s and August’s by spending as much time as humanly possible at everyone’s favorite Pennsylvania State Park. That is, if it’s what you’re into. I don’t care to go through the effort of listing all the information about each camp, so I’ll invite you to pick up a brochure at church or just follow this handy link to the official website.

Ok, I lied when I said “finally” before. I’ve decided that with all this real information I’ve provided, I need to give some fluff that doesn’t really matter. It’s just some links to crazy and/or weird stuff, such as:
- A toddler solving Rubik’s Cube in less than two minutes.
- A tomato that looks like Micky Mouse.
- Thirty-one ways to lace your shoes.

Good day to you all, and have a happy Best Friend Day and Pick Your Poison Day.

Mega- then Giga-… now Tera?

May 18, 2007

Not that it hasn’t existed before, but the first terabyte hard drives are making it to market. The hard drive is where your computer stores all its long term information. One gigabyte is one thousand megabytes. One terabyte is one thousand gigabytes. For those of you counting (and still caring), that’s one million megabytes!

That’s hard to wrap my mind around. I mean, the first computer I ever had had around 500 megabytes. Now, we’re looking at 2000 times as much storage. Okay, sorry getting too geeky.

Anyone out there use iTunes? It’s an online music store where you can sample and buy music. Anyone hate the fact that you can’t easily put your purchased songs on anything but an iPod? You’re in luck (not really.. luck doesn’t exist.. it’s a colloquialism.. I should say, “God’s providence has been shown to you.”). Anyhow, Amazon.com is opening a music store that sells unrestricted mp3s, so you can put your music on any device you please.
By the way, set aside some time today; there are several holidays to celebrate: International Museum Day, National Bike to Work Day, No Dirty Dishes Day, and Visit Your Relatives Day. Celebrate by riding your bike to visit your local museum with your relatives while eating everything on napkins.

Welcome!!

May 17, 2007

Welcome to the FatHead Inc. – the official blog of the Faith OPC Senior High Youth Group. No, it’s not a company. We’re not selling anything. The “Inc.” is there to make it sound cool or something like that.

What you’ll find here is stories about the youth group: announcements and reminders of upcoming events, stories and anecdotes about past events, and random news bits about the funny, weird, and cool things going on in the world.

Our first story brings us some weird and cool: a new land speed record of 92 mph has been set in Leicestershire, England. 92 mph?!? That’s it? I thought people had reached speeds of 750 mph. Oh wait…that’s right. It was done in a sofa. A re-engineered sofa achieved speeds of 92 mph.

Don’t believe me? Follow the link.

By the way, happy Pack Rat Day! Celebrate by not throwing something away that definitely deserves it.
